Making Connexions with Jelly

Like starting a new business, building a coworking community is probably most successful when starting with a sphere of influence…or the people we already know.  After all, the people in the community will be there just about everyday sharing the same space, resources, coffee, kitchen and even FOOD! Yes, there’s food involved in coworking. So, the community should be a group of people who share the same values while complementing skill sets and knowledge bases. Most of all, they should like each other.

We’ve decided to start with our online and offline networks and in our current industries. To kick off our community “creation” campaign we’re are organizing a Jelly. Jelly is a new term I recently learned and is sort of like coworking.
We’ll start the Minding Your Business Jelly which will be an open discussion about transferable business success principles. We’ll also talk about coworking and how it can help independents succeed. Our goal is to share ideas that will hopefully inspire us to create new ideas, thus improving how we work alone…together. Dates, times and locations should be available by mid-week. We are looking for great things to come from our MYB JELLY!

Counting Down! 76 Days Until Opening Day

Building a coworking community is no small feat. We are 76 days away and there’s lots of planning and meeting and creating to do. We’ve had our eye on the space for almost two years, so that was the easy part. Now, we want to “build a community” before we build the physical community.

To create the right community, we must focus on synergy and connecting with people we actually don’t mind seeing every day. The characteristic that makes a coworking environment better than a coffee shop is intention. Coworkers intentionally commune in a space to work along…together. Being with other self-directed people is inspiring and promotes innovation, creativity and possibly greater productivity.
Our task over the next 76 days is to find those people. We’ll start with the people we already know or interact with in real life and virtual networks. Then, we seek out the people in industries in which we are familiar. If we reach out to enough people in our circles and they reach out to the people in their circles, pretty soon we’ll have the makings of an awesome coworking community.
